Additional information

Special effects for film, theatre, Halloween and Carnival

Blood, wounds, scars, burns, wrinkles that aren't yours and teeth nobody wants to have. Here is the material professionals use in film, television and theatre, which also works for Halloween and Carnival.

Artificial blood

Kryolan has several types: HD Blood, Drying Blood, Supreme Blood (internal and external), Blood Paste, Special Blood and Blood Capsules. Each has its own viscosity and flow speed, so choose according to the effect.

Scars, waxes and latex

For scars there's Collodion; for modelling, Cine-Wax, Soft Putty and Artex; and Liquid Latex Clear for noses, bald caps and wounds. For prosthetics and character work there's Glatzan Bald Cap and Tooth Enamel to colour teeth.

Glues and removers

You'll find Spirit Gum, Spirit Gum Matt, HD Pro Gum and Pros-Aide, with their respective removers.

Colour to paint and dramatise

The alcohol paints from Allied FX and SFX, Aquacolor and Supracolor add colour and drama to any effect.

Frequently asked questions.

How do I start an SFX kit?

It depends on the area of special effects you want to work in: whether you're going to build prosthetics or you want something out of the kit for immediate effects. There are more old school but reliable materials, such as latex, or more advanced ones that require more training, such as Artex. Collodion is always useful and, of course, glues, bloods and alcohol palettes are always essential. Talk to us and we'll help you put the kit together.

Which artificial blood should I choose?

It depends on the effect. Supreme Blood is sugar-based, with realistic viscosity and flow speed, and is ideal for theatre, TV and film. Alcohol-based bloods can't be used near mucous membranes: near the mouth, the only one we have for that is Supreme Blood Internal, and for the eyes there's Eyeblood, specific to that area. HD Blood Gel is great for dirtying walls, making realistic prints and giving a blood with surface viscosity. Talk to us and we'll help you choose the ideal blood.

How do I make a scar?

With Collodion you can make hyper-realistic atrophic scars (the kind that pull the skin inwards) in areas with little movement. For more raised scars there's latex, Artex and waxes such as Cine-Wax.

How do I apply and remove glues and prosthetics?

There are glues for every kind of effect: Spirit Gum, the oldest; Pros-Aide, a medical-grade glue; and HD Pro Gum, made specifically for use with tulle, that is, wigs, false moustaches and the like. Always remove each glue with its appropriate remover, such as Spirit Gum Remover & Thinner.

Is liquid latex safe on skin?

Always do an allergy test first, because many people are allergic to latex. Also take great care when using and removing latex near body hair and hair.
