THE BEST CHOICES THIS BLACKFRIDAY
But what is the origin of Black Friday?
Black Friday began in the United States and today it is one of the most anticipated days of the year for global businesses! The story goes back to the 1960s in Philadelphia, where the Friday after Thanksgiving was marked by chaotic traffic as people flocked to the city to take advantage of the sales that marked the beginning of the holiday season. Police officers began to nickname the day “ Black Friday ” due to the crowds and chaos that took over the shopping center. Later, retailers realized the potential and reinvented the name and concept: instead of associating “Black Friday” with chaos, they emphasized “black” as a reference to profits — that is, going from red to black (meaning a positive balance in the accounts)! Since then, Black Friday has become a celebration of shopping with incredible discounts and moves billions of dollars.
Now, Cyber Monday is a more recent event and, as its name suggests, it’s completely digital! It started in 2005, when the National Retail Federation in the US noticed a massive increase in online sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Since many people used Monday to shop online, retailers decided to create a special day for online shopping, taking advantage of the weekend’s sales. The idea caught on and spread quickly, so much so that today it’s one of the biggest online sales days in the world!
So, we have Black Friday for those who love the frenzy of physical stores (and, of course, online too) and Cyber Monday , dedicated to convenience and online shopping. Together, they form an unbeatable and irresistible duo of shopping opportunities, officially marking the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
